This is my all time favorite thing I learned working in the restaurant industry. I’m not kidding you.
I hadn’t lived until I tried this.
I started working at a wine bar in Scottsdale, Arizona a couple years ago. When business gets slow you have time to get to know your coworkers, and when you work in a bar and you’re around alcohol all the time one of the first questions you get asked is, “what’s your drink of choice?” Without hesitation the answer for me has always been tequila. Somehow it came up in a conversation with another tequila-lover and bartender extraordinaire that I was beginning to grow tired of it. The lime and the salt thing wasn’t really doing it for me anymore, and margaritas gave me crazy heartburn and the biggest headache next day. I had tried to make the switch to vodka but it made my heart race. I just needed something new. Randi immediately asked me if I was willing to trust her and give something else a try that may sound a little unusual. I had no idea that what was about to happen would be this life changing.
She grabs an orange slice and sprinkles some cinnamon on it, then pours a good sized shot of tequila. She then tells me to take the shot, then eat the cinnamon covered orange. Weird combination, but what do I have to lose?
Guys, I wasn’t ready.
I can’t even begin to describe how great it is. That weird face you make when you take a shot of some not-so-smooth tequila and the lime was a little dry and doesn’t quite cover up the taste? Yea, that doesn’t happen with oranges and cinnamon. I don’t think I’ve taken a regular shot of tequila since that day. It’s a Randi Shot, or no shot.
Have you ever read that book, if you give a mouse a cookie? If you give a girl a bottle of tequila, she’s going to need an orange and cinnamon to go with it.
Thanks so much, Randi, both for sharing your trick and allowing me to share it with others!
p.s. If you click the pictures it’ll show you where I got my super cool skull shot glass.
If y’all have other interesting combinations that changed your life I’d love to hear about them! Sharing is caring. Drop me a line so I can try it out!
